International Day of Peace

International Day of Peace

Each year on September 21, the UN invites all nations and people to honor a cessation of hostilities and commemorate the International Day of Peace through education and public awareness on issues related to peace. In the quest for peace, the Universal Peace Federation and its Ambassadors for Peace around the world organize commemorations of the International Day of Peace each year.

Theme for 2013: “Education for Peace”

“It is not enough to teach children how to read, write and count. Education has to cultivate mutual respect for others and the world in which we live, and help people forge more just, inclusive and peaceful societies.” – UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, 100-day Countdown Message to the International Day of Peace

In 1981 the General Assembly of the United Nations unanimously adopted resolution 36/67 on the need for the establishment of the International Day of Peace, and in 2002 decided that September 21 will be a regular day celebration of peace. Ukraine supported the decision of the UN General Assembly and Presidential Decree of 05.02.2002 № 100/2002 declared September 21 National Day of Peace.

On Peace Day Saturday 21 September Peace One Day will be presenting an incredible 24-hour Global Broadcast via YouTube.
